Singhad Scoe Sinhgad College of Engineering (SCOE) is a private unaided institution that was established in the year 1996. The institute offers eight undergraduate engineering programs of four-year duration namely Mechanical Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Information Technology, Production Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Bio-Technology. Six engineering departments are offering post-graduate programs.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Civil Engineering are recognized Ph.D. Research Centre by University of Pune. The institute also offers a post-graduate program leading to an MBA degree. It has a total undergraduate and post-graduate enrollment of 1200 and 338 students respectively.

There are 126 students registered for Ph.D. with this research center. All the courses are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and affiliated with the University of Pune.

The department is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation, thrice. The vision of the department is to provide high academic goals to the students and make them world leaders both in Educational and Research with industry on cutting-edge technology to address current and emerging challenges in a global perspective for the development of society. A well-qualified and dedicated faculty gives personal attention to each and every individual student.

The department has a rich infrastructure with 300 branded computers of latest configuration with major essential peripherals and advanced legal software like .NET, 3D-max, Oracle 10i, Microsoft server, Qualnet, etc. The department has eleven laboratories. The centralized Internet Browsing Centre having 40 computers with Lease-line connectivity of 4 Mbps is managed by the department round the clock.

The I.T. curriculum shares fundamental courses of computer engineering syllabi and mainly focuses on new paradigms of the IT industries i.e. Software management, software engineering, software quality control, testing, and high-end technologies. The course is designed to provide a skill set for the role of a leader in the IT industry.

Student Activity


Sinhgad Student Concil (SSC)


The inception of Computer Students Forum came from the concept that the students themselves should be able to come up with the ideas and organize the activities which would be beneficial to them. Sinhgad Student concil is an student organization at Institute Level,Sinhgad Technical education scociety, Pune. It is entirely managed by the students under the staff’s guidance. It is responsible for arranging all the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in the department.Objectives:

  1. Providing a platform for the holistic development of the students.
  2. Ensuring that student activities are carried out smoothly under the staff’s guidance.
  3. Developing contributing relations with the alumni and corporate.
  4. Facilitating interaction among all the students of the department.
  5. Motivating students to think from research perspectives and develop a particle approach towards studies.
  6. Brining out the leadership and the management qualities in the students.
  7. Provide Training and Placement Assistance.

Activities/Outcome:

  1. The annual National technical festival “Techtonic” is arranged under SSC where students and staff work together to make it larger and bigger each year.
  2. The forum publishes its own bi-annual newsletter ‘cybertimes’ to promote writing skills in students.
  3. Industrial visit are arranged for students of all the years to provide students with industry insights.
  4. Workshops and guest lectures are arranged at regular intervals which are conducted by industry and academic experts.
  5. Alumni meets and lectures are arranged from time to time to help students decide their future course in life.
  6. The department hosts an in-house project competition ‘Fine-pro’ and a PG level conference ‘PGcon’ under SSC.

Involvement: Both faculties and students are involved SSC.

Objective:To improve presentation skills of students and communication between staff and student.Execution:The department of Computer Engineering and on the behalf of Sinhgad Student Concil organized the Teachers’ Day Event for the staff members of this department. All the staff is present on this day for this celebration. It also helped to improve presentation skills of students and the communication between staff and student.The event starts with conduction of first two lectures or practical’s of all classes by TE as well as SE. The lectures are conducted from 10:15 am to 12:15 pm.The event commence at 1:15pm with traditional approach of singing Ishastavan and performing classical dance. It is followed by the speech from General Secretary.  Some students share their experiences with the staff and their classmates. Then some award is given to the teachers by thethird year students. This ceremony is concluded by a speech by H.O.D by  valuable guidance to the students. Then later at 3:30 pm some games and refreshments are arranged for all the staff members.Outcome:Student got the experience of teaching. It has decreased the communication gap between staff and students.Involvement:Both faculties and students are involved in the teacher’s day event


Techtonic


Techtonic is an Annual National Technical Festival of Sinhgad Techinical Education scociety which is organized each year. Students contribute to the best of their abilities make Techtonic a huge event with a great zeal. ‘Techtonicr’ as a brand has been growing ever since it commenced and this would have not been possible without the constant support of the college staff, management and the industry contribution in it.Objective:

  1. To provide students with a platform where they could develop and brush their management and interpersonal skills.
  2. A stage where students and staff work in unison for the college.
  3. Students get the importance of working as a team for a common cause.
  4. Students try a hand at finance management.

Execution

  1. Planning: Students and staff together work in planning all the technical as well as the recreational activities during Techtonic. The team takes into account all the factors like the resources available, forecasted budget and the time available.
  2. Finance: Techtonic is an event by the students and hence the students generate the revenue through sponsorships and tie-ups with various industries and organizations. The cash flow at every stage, the budget allocation to various activities and satisfying the sponsors is taken care of by the students with the support of the staff.
  3. Publicity: Techtonic as an event is published rigorously with campaigning schedules prepared in advance wherein students visit each college around the city and some around the state to make sure apt participants turn out for the event. Advertisements are made throughout the city and through the events newspaper partner, radio partner and advertisement partner.
  4. Event Management: Each even organized under excelsior is managed by the students with a strict hierarchy which has proper distribution of responsibilities and power from the apex committee to the volunteers. Each event is also assigned a staff co-coordinator to ensure the proper functioning of the event.

Outcome:

  1. An ever growing Technical Festival ‘Techtonic’ is itself the biggest outcome.
  2. Students get acquainted with the scenarios they may face in the real life and how to face them.
  3. It serves as a practical exam for the concepts and values learnt in the classroom for them.
  4. The interaction between the senior and junior students turns out to be leaning experiences for the juniors which help them to carry on the legacy.
  5. Students develop the software’s required for the events and hence this contributed to their academic knowledge.

Involvement:Both faculties and students are involved in Techtonic.


Industrial Visit


Objective:To give industry working exposure and technical  knowledge  to the  students.Execution:The department of Computer Engineering organizes an industrial visit for second year ,third year and final year students. Department takes permission from the industry .  For safety purpose, visits are only organized through college decided tours and travels.  Staffs are  accompanying the students for  visits. Department takes undertaking from the students and also convey the information of visits to the parents .Outcome:Student get the chance to see work culture of industry and technical knowledgeInvolvement: Both faculties and students are involved in the industry visits


Farewell


Objective:To give platform for final year students to express their views about department and to give future guidelines .Execution:Department  Computer Engineering and SSC organize this event for final year students. Event starts with speech of H.O.D. Then some  staff members express their feeling about these final year students and give some carrier guidance. Then chance is given to final year students to express their views and experience about department and staff members.  Then some informal awards are given to the final year students by third year students .Finally event ends with games and refreshments for final year students and  staff membersOutcome:Final year student get the opportunity to express their feelings and views about the department and faculty and they also get carrier guidance.


News Letter- THE CYBER TIMES


Objective:To give students an insight of latest technologies, research ideas and technical details of any technology through their articles, staff articles, guest columns and guest interviews.Execution:Students are encouraged to share their ideas and thoughts about any technology through articles in about 600-700 words. Faculties doing research work or Ph.D  also contribute by sharing their idea and experience about research work. Such articles give students ongoing updates in the field of computer science. We also interact with eminent personalities from industry or research and development through guest interviews. Research scholars from industry or university are also requested to contribute their valuable knowledge and experience through guest column. Designing, editing and content writing is solely done by students of department. The final layout of the newsletter is finalized by concerned faculty and printed with the permission of head of the department.Outcomes/Achievements:Following are the major outcomes of this event:

  1. The Cyber Times gives students an opportunity to share their information through articles.
  2. Staff articles gives an insight of research work, projects going on in the departments.
  3. Reports about various activities, events, workshops carried out in the departments.
  4. Interaction with industry persons through guest interviews.
  5. Team work of the team in making of the newsletter successful.

Finepro


Finepro is an intra-department final-year student project competition that started in 2006. In its initial years, the main objective of Finepro is to get the students’ projects reviewed by industry experts. The output of this competition is not only to announce the winners but also improvement in the project quality, and confidence in the student to face their final project examination. In recent years the scope of Finepro is extended as project exhibition cum competition. The projects of B.E. students are showcased to third year students, to explore the different project domains and ideas. Every year the department successfully manages to seek at least 8 to 10 highly experienced industry experts from reputed companies. These experts guide the students on industry-standard processes, domain knowledge and latest technology through their discussion. Overall Finepro is the strong step of the department for industry institute interaction.
